This is intended as a small present for my sister in laws birthday of her dog Zorro. I used a charcoal pencil and an assortment of erasers (putty & hard) on 190g sketch paper measuring 148mm x 210mm.

It took just over an hour to complete and the first 40 minutes were done while having my break at work in my truck....it keeps me out of the 'burger joints'.

The hard part was trying to get an idea of the outline because I drew this from a photo which had a very dark background which didn't help much because of his dark coat. Next time I'll make sure I take a photo where the subject & background don't clash.

I'm looking forward to getting it behind a frame because this is my first charcoal drawing and I never realised what a mess it can make. :0)

Hope you enjoy. Grant.

what a cute little fella. He's so adorable, what lovely eyes. I think your brave trying charcoal as I have never used it. I hope your sister in law likes her gift, you'll have to let us know.

Well done.

nice job

I like your drawing, I believe the dogs face needs more definition, and more clarity in the eyes, maybe just more defined expression in the dogs face.
