Waiting for Spring

Waiting for Spring

Hi Everyone, I just finished this for a upcoming show in Toronto, Ontario. 1/2 sheet (22" x 15") Arches 140 lb rough using a mix of artist grade paints..

I am pleased with the barn board.... but compositionally my birches are too evenly spaced and I need to work on forward facing branches.

Comments and critiques are always welcome

cheers,

Gail

Hi Gail, Great painting, the way the shadows are falling should'nt there be a little shadow on the left side of the trees, you show some on the far right tree. The small bush on the right should cast some shadow also?? How did you rank at the show?

Love it!
by: Jenn

Great detail on the barn! You did a fantastic job, and until I read your comment I never noticed the "neatness" of the trees. We can all be too critical of our own work. I think your painting is just lovely. I can imagine walking right into it.

Lovely Picture
by: Dorothy Carluke

Hi Gail,

I think this is a lovely picture. You can nearly hear the snow crunch if someone was to walk over it.

It is a bitterly cold night in Scotland and we may have snow soon.

Regards,

Dorothy

I think it's wonderful

What a pleasant and well painted winter scene. Yes I even like the title. First snow of the winter last night here in England.

Could you advise on the sizes of brushes you used for this painting. The reason I ask is that I seem to always seem to tighten up when using smaller brushes. This would appear not to be the case in your painting.

I think it's a beautiful painting. Your shadows are good. I didn't notice some of the things you said you could improve on until after looking more. I love the textures and colors. The trees are still beautiful even if you find some things that might be better about them.

Waiting for Spring is great!

I think the picture is wonderful....Don't make any changes. Sometimes when we think we are done, WE ARE!...and when we go back to fix we just mess up. I love it!
