Velvet Mat Board

Lemons

I cut a mat the other day from a red/brown velvet board. The middle was too small to use for much of anything, so I decided to try it for a pastel painting. All I had on hand were some cheap pastels we had lying around, but I'm so pleased with the results.

It took the color beautifully, allowing many layers and subtle blending. If you have access to any of this material, you've got to try it for your next pastel experiment!

How can we tell if the velvet mat board is acid free and archival quality so that it lasts a lifetime? Any ideas? Thanks! (the lemons are beautiful) If you reply by email, please send response to: infomuk@comcast.net Otherwise, I'll check back for the response.

by: Laurel

HI Cindy,

Thanks for the great ideas..... I used to use velvet mat board in art class in school and I have been looking all over the place for it. Do you know any sites that I can order it on? I love the lemons....

Thanks,

Laurel
