Using too much colour

With all those lovely colours to choose from it is tempting to try and use them all in a painting. If you restrict yourself to a limited palette of around 3 colours (OR tones of the same colour) you will produce a painting which is easy on the eye. Very often you will find that less is more! Try painting in contrast colours for example.

I painted this trying to make it look a little abstract by using semi-circles, circles, triangles, oblongs, etc.

Wish you had also posted your painting Brad as it would have been brilliant to see what you produced.

Helpfull

You've made a really interesting and relevant point here. I've tried this and found it has really helped with tonal values of my paintings. I've started with just the three colours, building up the shadows and highlights, then added a few more colours. working this way has given a different kind of depth to the painting/drawing.
