Happiness

Happiness

I made this portrait of a Tunisian woman using soft pastels (Rembrandt and Maimeri) on a gray velour paper. The size of the picture is about 500 mm x 350 mm.

I like doing portraits using any kind of tools (pencils, charcoal, pastel, sanguine, acrylic, gouache, watercolor). This woman figures in a photography book by Michael Tomkinson. I liked her smile, and the way she seems to be happy.

I'm pleased with the expression of this woman (happiness and kindness), but I'm not happy about the background, I think that it can be much better.

Hi Amina,

This is a lovely portrait... full of movement and texture. I think the way you have painted her bangle and beads is really super.

She looks so happy, makes you want to join her in the dance.

Regards,

Dorothy

Beautiful and light, there's not a single thing I'd change about this piece!
I like the background the way it is, and wouldn't change it because it makes you focus more on the woman and her expression.

Hello Amina:
Delightful portrait....so happy....I can almost hear her laugh. I love the subtle colors and matching values. I see no problem with the background.
I find myself smiling back :o)

Great Drawing!
by: Bonny

I love the expressive quality you captured in her face! This is a fabulous drawing.

The background could use a little more contrasting colour to the subject, or just more tonal values to contrast with the face.

Great drawing, I really like it!

Happy New Year!

You could make the background a little softer by mixing the colours, using a tissue. But I don't think there is something wrong with the background.
I like the hand, it's a strong hand.

Well done.
