TREE POPPY IN ACRYLICS

TREE POPPY IN ACRYLICS

This picture is in acrylic's and it is done on Canford Paper colour Barley. the size is A4. This is a picture I saw in a book that I was reading, and it cried out to be drawn (which I did) and then I wanted to paint it, I have never used colour before as I like the pencil drawing best, but it sort of come alive for me in colour.

The artwork is not brillient and the shading needs a lot of work to be acceptable, but I am a learner and it was a new learning curve for me,and any advice would be very welcome. I have also submitted this picture in the drawing section but this one is scaled down a little.

Hi Dorothy,

thank you for the comments, I will bear your advice in mind when I redo the picture, shading is a complete mystery to me, but I am always happy to listen to others more advanced then I am and to act on the advice thank you very much Pat

First attempt
by: Dorothy, Carluke

Hi Pat,

For a first attempt at using colour this is really good.

The only advice that I could give you would be to darken the shading using either the same blue that you have already used or a shade a little darker. This will make the white stand out more.

Another thought is try this on a dark paper then the flowers will really stand out.

The rule is to try to work dark against light.

Well done and regards,

Dorothy

Hi Irene,

thank you for your comments, I would never have thought of putting a lighter side to the leaves, but when I thought about it, it would bring the leaves outto 'meet you' is that right?? again thank you
