Painting leaves NEW
by: Jayashree

What a wonderful idea... painting leaves always leaves (!!) me feeling confused and somewhat incompetent as a budding artist.. this tip is great.. will use it asap... :-)

Good idea! NEW
by: robertsloan2

I like that, can see it would make a great texture. Thanks for the tip!

If you did it several times in different greens, yellows, blues and browns it would also be easy to get shaded foliage, with more yellow and light green clumps in the sunlit areas and more blues, browns, darker greens in the shadows. The optical mixing would make it work even if some bits of yellow or blue stood out alone.

Thanks NEW
by: Monte

Great tip Owen, I'm a tree hugger from way back and love doing trees, but the leaves have always given me trouble and were time consuming. Your little trick will help alot, Wish I could see an example of what you've done with this technique.

for those in the uk NEW
by: Chris Turner

Glad wrap I think is cling film in the uk. Sort of a plastic wrapping you put around sandwiches etc. I also use tin foil for the foreground as it gives crisper more solid leaves. I love the undpredictable, nature like effect both cling film and tin foil give. Great tip.

Also try this.

Use the same for pebbles at the bottom of a lake of shoreline.

Also try bubble wrap (not sure what its called in the states).
