THE OPEN WINDOW

THE OPEN WINDOW

ACRYLIC ON CANVAS

11X14

I WAS INSPIRED BY A PHOTO I TOOK OF NORTH CAROLINA'S BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS AND BLACK MOUNTAIN RANGE. THE LAKE HOUSE WE STAYED HAD THIS BEAUTIFUL VIEW OF THE LAKE AND THE PURE BEAUTY OF ITS SURROUNDINGS MADE ME DRAW THIS SCENE.

"THE OPEN WINDOW" IS MY SECOND PAINTING AND IT SOLD THIS WEEKEND IN A COUNTRY CRAFT FAIR SHOP. I CONSIDER MYSELF AN OUTSIDER ARTIST (SELF-TAUGHT) AND MY PASSION IS TO PAINT. I BEEN PAINTING FOR 6 MONTHS.

WHAT I FOUND MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT THIS PICTURE WHICH I WAS NOT ABLE TO CAPTURE WAS TO CREATE A DRIFTING MIST COMING DOWN FROM THE DISTANT MOUNTAINS TO THE LAKE.

HOWEVER, I WAS PLEASED THE PICTURE SOLD.

WHAT I WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY IF DOING THIS PICTURE AGAIN IS NOT TO BE IN A HURRY AND DO ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ON DIFFERENT PAINTING TECHNIQUES IN ORDER TO ACHIEVED THE GOALS SET FOR MYSELF IN PAINTING.

I love your painting it looks so nice there I could just imagine being there and looking out the window. I am from Scotland and I am looking out my window at the gray skies and rain

Hi Carol:
Excellent painting. One little negative....the black frame at the top tends to take my eye out of the painting....but that's just my feeling. Great suggeston of distance with the hills and sky.

This is outstanding work, what's amazing is that this is only your second painting... And even more amazing is that you sold it!!! Well done, some artist take years before they are able to sell their work.
