The Was-Cat

The Was-Cat

When my best friend's 22 year old cat died, I wanted to honor him with a colored pencil portrait--it took weeks, but I loved doing it and giving them a picture to capture the life within one of the strangest kitties on the planet. I used a medium tooth drawing paper, Prismacolor pencils, and a very fuzzy old photo of Sooty.

Lovely gift

Hi Norah,

As a cat lover I think this is lovely painting and also a lovely thought. I'm sure your friend will treasure it.

There is only one little point and this is not meant as a critizm as I have encountered this problem myself when painting animals or people from photographs.

It concerns the flash reflecting back on the eye. If you ever do an animal or a person again try if you can not to make the highlight in the eye round as it shows on the photograph but rather just a little dot or similar for the highlight will overcome this problem.

I hope I have not offended you by saying this because I think it is a really lovely picture.

Regards,

Dorothy

I hope your friend appreciated your efforts. He looks a little grumpy - but at 22 he is permitted to be.

well done
