Sweet Rose

by Aaron Haah

Surface: Reg white paper

Size: 12x18in

This was an art project at school. I decided to challenge myself with the transparency of the glass and the petals of a rose. The most challenging part was to get the proportions right.

Trying to express the texture of the rose petals was hard and I don't think I did it right. The glass wasn't hard at all. I'm glad that the glass turned out right and that it actually looks like a glass!! Next time, I would challenge myself to draw the movement of water.

I also drew "Calm Seashore" in watercolor, made a self-portrait named "Self-Portrait (Aaron)," and drew the "Safety Pin" in pastel on a black paper. Please leave any comments. Thank you.

Aaron

Beautiful Aaron, but I honestly think that your background doesn't do justice to such a a lovely subject. You must have spent considerable time perfecting the rose while the background looks a little careless. I agree with Angeline's comments about the background.
Roses are not an easy subject......you show talent here.

Hi Aaron,

Beautiful rose, very detailed.
I think the rose and the glass will show better, if you make whole the background black, and not only around the rose. The same for the table, not only a black circle around the bottom of the glass. But that's just my opinion.

Thank you for your comment too.

Hi Aaron,

I like this drawing very much and the rose is beautifully draw.

However, perhaps you could check the elipse on the rim and bottom of the glass where it is resting on the table.

Nevertheless, it is very well done and you should be very proud of yourself.

Regards,

Dorothy
