Sunset On Peggy's Cove

by Gail Young
(Island Grove, Ontario )

Watercolour 22 x 15 inces on Arches 140 lb rough. Using a mix of artist grade watercolour.

This painting was a challenge for me in several ways... Painting a half sheet of watercolour is always a challenge ( how am I going to fill all that white paper )

Secondly, I find painting realistic water and water relections difficult.

Lastly, drawing the boat perspectively gives me fits.. (thanks Bob, for the boat lesson this issue)

I am pleased with the sky and sunset 's reflections on the water.

Not sure if I went too dark overall????

Comments and any critiques would be most welcome

Cheers,

Gail

PERSPECTIVE
by: Dorothy, Carluke

Hi Gail, I don't think your painting is too dark. You have captured the gloaming as we say here in Scotland. The gloaming is the time just before darkness falls.

Just one tiny thing I would mention is that I think the perspective on the roof of the red building is slightly off. The roof should run down every so slightly as it moves away but I think I am perhaps being a bit picky as overall it is a lovely painting.

Well done

sunset on peggy's cove
by: Barbara

Like yourself I loved the sky, also the shed did feel a part of the whole scene, so often they look as though they are attached.
The reflections may have been more enhanced by taking the stroked straight down with a flat brush, lifting out the paint perhaps. Loved it. Barbara.

NOT DARK AT ALL

Beautiful scene well painted, not too dark at all to my eye, the tone sets the scene for the evening light
