Sunset Elephant

by Angeline Rijkeboer
(Blaricum, the Netherlands)

All my life I have something special with elephants and that's why I am collecting little elephants (stone, glass, metal, etc.)

During my holidays I always try to buy a little elephant in every country I visit, for my collection. Now I have more than 50 of them.

I also like to paint animals and currently I am making a series of wildlife paintings, so it wasn't difficult to choose for an elephant.

As an elephant is grey and brown and I prefer bright colors, I decided to paint this elephant at sunset, so that the orange colors in the sky are reflecting at the elephant's skin. I hope you can see it on the photograph.

It's an acrylic painting on canvas.
The size is 60x80 cm.

I used a picture from a bookcover as an example for the elephant, the grass and the background are fantasy.

It resulted in a colorful painting and I am very pleased with it.

Awsome

I love this painting. This elephant has such a gentle strength, as I imagine they really are. The composition is so pleasing, and the colors are as well. Hard to tell how dark they really are, but as I tip my laptop to this view, they get very vibrant... too deep, and it looks wonderful at that darker tone. Almost like the darkness you see in a Gauguin.

I love your elephant!

Your painting is great...I love the way you have shown texture in the elephant's hide. The background and setting, the distant trees, all make for a very pleasing painting.
