Study of Spanish Dancer

Acrylic and Pastel on Card 70cm x 50cm

This was painted in just over an hour. My art teacher gave us the theme of traditional costumes, dress etc. My inspiration was a painting of a flamenco dancer.

First I painted the card black mixed with ultramarine blue and then painted in the figure. The lines were then added with soft pastels which I'd never used before. I was really surprised at how easy these were to use and how much brightness they gave to the picture.

I loved the way the lines created the idea of movement. This is very different to my last painting where I was very precise. I'd like to do more work like this.

I think you've captured the swirling skirt of the Flamenco dancer really well. I also like the way you have painted her pose.

Have a Lovely Christms and Good Health in the New Year.
