Still Life with Blue Bottle #1

by Tina Perry
(Eureka Springs, AR)

This painting is 18x24 on stretched canvas. I painted it in Acrylic. I am doing a series of still life with a blue bottle and bandanas. I have never painted glass before so I though I would give it a shot. I think if I do enough of these, I will be able to capture glass as well as cloth, both of which I need to work at.

The most challenging for me was the background. I have trouble getting the folds of the drapery right. I was pleased with the blue bottle and the bandana, and the play with complementary colors.

Thanks for the feedback

Thanks to everyone for the good feedback. Clear glass is a reflection of evertyhing around it. I just do the outline and paint what I see looking through it, and then add the the light reflecting off the bottle.

I so envy your ability to capture clear glass .. I'm srtuggling with that . As for the folds , what I do is have the cloth hanging over the edge of something .

Background?
by: Lynn

Tina, the scarf and bottles are fine, but the background needs attention. Try a more nuetral colour and also something for the subjects to sit on, they seem to be floating. This is just my thoughts, I'm learning too! Happy painting!
