St. Mary's Church, Chennai

by Balaji
(Chennai, India)

I am a total beginner at watercolour. Having recently watched Bob's tutuorial on painting clouds, I decided to give it a try. I am delighted to have taken the plunge, and reasonably pleased with this attempt. Hopefully, if I keep at it, I will get better.

My reference, for the composition, was a painting on a greeting card...but I have changed a few elements.

This is done on a "Canson C a gran" 85 lbs lightly grained paper and the picture is approximately 9" x 7".

Hi Balaji:
This is a very pleasant composition.Great job on the trees, and I really like the contrast between the trees and the buildings behind.
Beginners are not supposed to be quite this good (smile). Looking forward to more work from you.

I love the trees!

You have a great knack for loose beautiful trees! And I like how their looseness sets off the detail of the church which is the focal point.

Hi, I like your painting. I like the broad washes you have used. For a beginner you have done very well indeed.

nice but I would not have done the trees in the middle they overpower the church.
use paper that is 140lb or something rougher you will get amuch better effect.
