rushing waters

Watercolor scene done on Arches 12x16 cold pressed 140lb paper. Trying to recreate an instructional scene. Wasn't able to get the rocks the way I wanted but am happy with the way the foliage turned out. This one was work!

Thanks for all the comments. The rocks are just awful and mess up what could have been a good pic.

Rushing Waters

Hi Terry:
Great effort on a difficult subject.I think you could change the whole appearance and make your painting look quite dramatic if you worked a bit on the rocks. Try this on a scrap piece of paper.Mix a small puddle of thickish burnt sienna and a small puddle of thickish ultramarine blue. Paint an oval or something with the brown paint.....then drop in a few blobs of blue. While wet... with a razor blade scrape down, across....whatever.....different angles. Takes a bit of practice but the results are great.

I like this very much, it's interesting to see the change of color in the background. The water looks as if it it really rushing.

Totally agree with your comment Anonymus. Hadn't thought about it before but it does look like a diseased brain slice. Ha, Ha. I've got work to do to get the rocks to stand out and look like rocks.
