Mt Fuji

Mt Fuji

Red Mt Fuji is a good luck symbol in Japan. (Not my belief but I was asked to paint it by my friend so I complied). It was painted on 300gsm Bockingford paper. I used only 3 colours to paint this picture. Cadmium yellow deep, Ultramarine light and Carmine.

I created the sunset by painting transparent washes over each other. I first painted cadmium yellow in the sky and then let the paper dry. After it was dry I then rewet the surface of the paper and added the carmine wash. After a few carmine washes I then blocked in the Fuji and the sun with masking fluid. I continued painting the sky and the foreground. When I was satisfied with my washes I removed the masking fluid and put details on the sun and Mt. Fuji.

I think I overworked the setting sun but otherwise I don't mind the picture.

The ball of the sun is a little distracting but otherwise I really like this painting very much. All I can say is, I wish I had painted it! Well done Leanne.

I agree with Dave. It doesn't look like a setting sun.
