Homesick

My Painting done on canvas board size 14x18

my biggest challenge was her hair which was so vibrant I may have gone a bit over board with this, but really liked the result.

The sitter was from Capetown South Africa, she was feeling very pensive and missing her family, not very happy. Thank you for any feed back and feel free to critique this work for me. Cheers Joyce

Hi Linda, Thank you for your comments, When I painted this lady I was at a 2 hour life sitting, with about 20 other students, the tutor suggested I put the darker shadow on, I believe the light source was coming from her left side. What would you suggest I do to change the shadow on her face, at the time I painted this portrait I had know idea about light and shadows as you can tell.
Would appreciate any suggestion's you may have. Regards and thanks Joyce

Great hair
by: Linda

I love the mouth, her hair, and the look in her eyes. You have captured her pensive sadness very well. This is really quite dramatic, and that is what is most appealing. I am having a hard time understanding the shadows on her face though. Where is the light coming from?
