Ocean Village in the Mediterranean

by Karen Meacham
(Clarksville, TN)

This 24 x 30 canvas painted in acrylics is my second painting. My husband saw a poster of this particular scene and really liked it so I used it as my inspiration. Having very little drawing or painting experience, my biggest challenge was getting the perspective right on the roof tops of the houses. I am most pleased with the flowers in the foreground and if I were to repaint this piece, I would try to improve on the angles of the roofs.

Sky

Hi Karen,

This is very good for just a second attempt at painting.

One little tip I would give you is to lighten the sky as it reaches the horizon. It is best if you use paler colours the farther away they are in your picture. This is ariel perspective.

I think this is a great painting for only your 2nd one, if you do it again it would be good if you vary the shade and tone of the roofs, this may not be the same as your photo, but it is artistic licence to make the pic more life like
