MAMA'S BOOT

MAMA'S BOOT

This is a watercolor pencil painting done on 9x12 Canson 140lb. paper and was done totally dry on dry. This was done when I was experimenting with and getting used to the pencils and before I started using brushes with tube paints.

This was done from a photo I took of a ceramic boot that my Mama made (rest her soul) when she taught classes in ceramics. I put the boot on a black shelf I had available, put a light on it, and took the picture with my digital camera. The light burst in the background and the reflection in front of the boot showed on the photo and was quite a surprise. I liked it and decided to include it in the picture. I added the floral arrangement to give life to the picture.

I was afraid to add any water to smooth the background which was the last thing I did to finish the picture. I didn't want to mess up all the work on the boot and the floral spray. However, the textured look of the background gave the piece a bit more character.

HOPE YOU ENJOY!
