Josie`s Jay

by Claudia Dobson
(Newfoundland,Canada)

Josie`s Jay was rendered in prisma colour pencils on 140 lb. water colour paper ( approx. 16x20 inches). I was inspired to paint this image because of an elderly lady (JOSIE) ( a very dear friend of mine)who loved birds and this paticuliar birdhouse was in her garden. The most challenging aspect of this painting? the leaves!!!I was most pleased with the jay.:-)I1m not sure i would change anything but would appreciate constructive advice ...Thank-you...Claudia

Claudia, I forgot to add that the piece has a
stained glass window effect - very nice. And that
burst of light in the fore-leaves (the wonderful light green)give the piece a burst of energy.

Beautiful!

Dear Claudia,

Your painting is beautiful! The leaves are
exquisite. Everything is rendered so well. You
truly left quite a tribute to your friend - isn't that what artists do?
Were your coloured pencils watercolour pencils or regular. I haven't worked with pencils to this degree - I would say you have mastered the medium.
Keep on.

Don't mend what isn't broken it's absolutely lovely.

Your background reminds me of the work of the Art and Crafts folk especially William Morris's designs.
