JOHN F KENNEDY

JOHN F KENNEDY

This portrait is drawn using cartridge paper and willow charcoal. It measures approx. 10" x 8".

They say if your were alive at the time of the Kennedy Assassination you can remember where you were and what you were doing. I can remember what I was doing. I was watching a TV quiz show with my Mum when it was interrupted by a newsflash which broke the news of the assassination of JFK.

I've read books about that day in Dallas and each one I read only leads me to be more confused about the motive and who did it!

Whatever the whyfores and wherefores it was a tragedy for him and also his family.

This was the first time I had ever worked using charcoal so that in itself was a challenge but I really enjoyed using it and the ease with which it blended and lifted off using a putty/kneadable rubber.

I am pleased with the result I think I have managed to get a fairly good likeness but if I were to do another charcoal drawing I think I might use pastel paper rather than cartridge.

I remember the day, november 1963. I was 12 years old, and I heard the news on television. It's one of those occasions you never forget.

I used to have an uncle, who was also drawing a lot in those days, and he made a portrait of Kennedy too, almost the same as your portrait. Unfortunately, after my uncle died in 1970 the drawing got lost.

Your portrait is very good. It's Kennedy in every detail. Well done, Dorothy!

Best wishes,
Angeline

Great portrait Dorothy....strong and bold....just like the man himself.
Cartridge paper and willow charcoal.....wow!......make that a "fantastic" portrait.
I was living in Wales at the time and remember the sadness on hearing the news.
