How to Use a Viewfinder

This short video on how to use a viewfinder shows you a really simple method of 'framing' your scene before you commit to painting it.

Although the video doesn't show you how, the card viewfinder is very simply made from any offcut of card. It doesn't have to be the same size as shown either.

In the past, I've used an old 35mm photo slide mount which has an opening of only about 1.5 inches by 1 inch (about 3cm x 2cm).

With a smaller viewfinder, all you need to do is bring it closer to your face as you look through the aperture to see more of the scene you want to create.

I hope you found that helpful. Believe me, you don't have to be a rookie artist to realise just how useful a viewfinder can be!
