Very neat idea!
by: Jill

I think that's a great idea, due to poor vision I have huge problems with depth, symmetry, and perspective too. (Let's not even go into being able to make things the correct size!) That tip would probably help me a lot then.
Side note: That painting of an apple that Anon did is awesome! :)

Getting it right
by: Anonymous

I agree with what you said. Sometimes I challenge myself to suggest a shape by just a few splatters of colors like in this painting http://community.how-to-draw-and-paint.com/photo/green-apple?context=user
Or sometimes I find myself admiring a child's painting because it expresses something beyond the object described by the image.

Anyway, drawing skills are very important. I don't use tricks or other tools to get the right shapes. If I cannot draw them correct I leave them as such and keep practicing.

Tip

I think that anything that helps to boost a person's confidence when drawing is fine. But I also think that a vase drawn assymetrical may also be valid. remember the old addage,"Art is not about creating a photographic image but showing the character of the object drawn" If an artist feels happier with a correctly proportioned vase, great. But if the other way satisfies the emotions--that is great too. Enjoy!

Every little tip helps
by: Anonymous

If you are struggling and you just cannot get a vase right, and believe me it will look wrong if it is not even, this is enough to put you off drawing for life. A simple little trick like this will make all the difference, and in my opinion, and from experience, any trick which will help is welcome. All the Old Masters used tricks and this is no different.

Is it fare?
by: Anonymous

The idea is great, but I wonder if it is fare to call yourself an artist if you cannot even draw a vase without using this kind of tricks.
