How to Draw a Face

In this 'how to draw a face' video you can see how using some basic shapes and measurements creates an easy way to construct a 'generic' head.

Get comfortable with how these shapes work together. Then it'll be much easier to adjust the shapes (such as the size of the eyes and nose and the shape of the mouth) to start creating faces of real people.

Remember, the head is oval and not circular! Also, even though this video starts with the outline of the head first, another way to try this is to draw the features first.

Because there's more detail in the features sometimes it can be easier to draw these first and then add the outline of the head later on.

We've created another step-by-step article that will show you how to draw faces of both men and women.

We've also got videos on the various facial features. For example, here's how to draw eyes.

Hi Robert, just want to say thank you so much for your emails, so much information and learning in them, and the videos are wonderful. Love your art and the art displayed on the links. Once again thanks, you have no idea of the enjoyment they bring.

I just wanted to say that I stumbled upon your acrylics tutorial on YouTube quite by accident and have fallen in love with it. I've been showing it to several friends who always ask me about art -- I'm an artist by profession -- and they all love it too. Thanks so very much. :) It is most appreciated.
