Hawaiian Sky

by Audrey
(Brittany, France)

Acrylic on Canvas on Board 46 x 55 cm. Inspired by a photo on the internet - what would I do without the internet?!!! I thought the photo was quite spiritual and tried to capture that in my painting. I'm pleased with the warm colours and the way the dress has turned out.

I haven't varnished it yet until I receive comments, so that I will be able to make any changes. I still have a problem with hands. I like to varnish my paintings as it brings the colours to life - but I do so very carefully.

there definatly is a spiritual quality to your painting ..I would lose the 'volcano' in the background and a very light touch of cadinum blue on the horizon would help with the horizon line . This was a tip from my teacher at Dawson College . The light is darker at the horizon and fades as it goes up .

I am looking forward to seeing it with the varnish ..womderful colors . Mary

Looks very good to me
by: Balaji

I think it looks very good.

If I were to try the same subject I would like to get a greater difference between the ground and the sky, and I would like to get some more mix of the colours (in your choice of colours, yellow and orange) in the sky. Right now the sky behind the arms is flat with one uniform colour although in other areas there is a swirl of colours.

Tip on painting hands
by: Leanne Halls

One tip I found for painting hands was turning a painting upside down or sideways and do the same with your reference picture. This way you will not see hands but shading and shapes. It really helped me when I was painting a picture with hands in it. You will seriously be amazed at how much it helps.

I really love the sky colours in this picture. Good work!!
