My Childhood Dream

My Childhood Dream

Painted on card, approx 8x11". This was painted in response to a challenge on an art forum of which I am member. The challenge was to paint traditional dress or costume and, as I always wanted to be a gypsy when I was a little girl I chose a typical Gypsy look.

I haven't used acrylics much and find it difficult to get a soft look from them, but as this picture required bright colours I decided to have a go with them. I found the face the most challenging and, although it's disguised fairly well the mouth didn't go right at all. I'm most pleased with the face and hair overall, but have to admit that the experession was entirely accidental.

I was also pleased with the skirt. This is the first acrylic painting I've actually been happy with, but I do realise that I have a long way to go before I achieve what I really want to do with them.

I think you did a great job. Acrylics take some getting used to but are so much fun. The tricky part is to get everything blended nicely before it dries :-)) I would have tried to make the skin more tan colored than pink but you have done a great job!
