Glencolumille, Donegal, Ireland

by Dorothy
(Carluke)

Hi,

I've been away for some time as I've been involved in other art projects

This picture is painted using Rembrant soft pastels on Daler Rowney pastel paper. It measures approx. 12 inches by 16 inches.

This picture is painted from a combination of two holiday photographs taken whilst on holiday in Dongegal several years ago although I have used artistic licence as far as the figures and poppies are concerned. I like poppies and I think figures in a landscape can "lift" a painting.

The most difficult think about painting this picture was deciding what part of the photographs to use and what to discard and also where to crop the photographs to get the focal point I was aiming for.

Overall I am happy with the way it has turned out but any suggestions or hints would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Dorothy

Hi Dorothy

Thank you for your comments on my 'Rusty Tools'

As soon as I looked at your painting, I said "Excellent"

It really gives the flavour of Ireland. Mystical but welcoming.

Hi Dorothy,

As you know already I think this is gorgeous. The contrast between the colourful foreground and the blue misty mountains in the background make the atmospheric perspective very good.
The sun shining on the fence posts, and all the details, it's really beautiful!

Love,
Angeline

Critique

I also like the composition and colours you have used, but i also know you are looking for constructive critisism. The one element I find distracting is the almost too perfect line at the top of the hedge which forms an 'Arc' shape from left to right. I would suggest that you stagger it a bit and make it a little more uneven, that would add interest, otherwise, very nice job.
