Master figure drawing with Drawing and Anatomy by Victor Perard

Never heard of Victor Perard?

He's one of the original masters of figure drawing and was an internationally known illustrator and painter. He illustrated many books on animal and figure drawing that were groundbreaking in their day.

As a subscriber to Starting Art you can now get "Drawing & Anatomy" absolutely FREE of charge...

How Will This Book Help Me?

When you first scan through the book, like me, you may be a little surprised and even a little disappointed. Straight away you can tell the format and style is dated. Handwritten notes accompany the pictures and there's no fancy colors or typesets.

There is very little text and next to no written instruction and this is important...

Illustrators and artists the world over have become masters of figure drawing and the human form by simply copying Victor's illustrations. This book contains over 1000 different drawings of the human body in various poses and by copying or even tracing just some of them you will get a feel for what looks right.

You'll soon be able to capture the same sense of movement, poise and balance - with everything in perfect proportion.

The book is split into 10 sections covering everything from the face to the feet, and even groups of people.

Why Is This Book Free?

The book is now in the public domain, which means it has no copyright restrictions. I've seen some publishers selling this book for as much $88 in Amazon's market place (although you can pick up a copy for under $12 too). Rather than having hard bound copies printed and selling them, I've converted the original book into a downloadable e-book and I'm making it freely available to subscribers of Starting Art...

For those that don't know what an e-book is, it's simply a document you read on your computer monitor (although I highly recommend you print this out and place the pages in a 3-ring binder or something similar).

Some Amazon Reviews

Here are some reviews taken from Amazon:

Master figure drawing with Drawing and Anatomy by Victor PerardSo detailed you could build your own person!...
I first became acquainted with the name VIKTOR PERARD when I purchased an old drawing book on e-Bay, titled "DRAWING FACES AND EXPRESSIONS". That book (also by Viktor Perard) was published by Grosset & Dunlap in 1956. Viktor Perard demonstrates his excellent art instruction for beginners in that book. So when I read through his "ANATOMY AND DRAWING" I found more of his excellent illustrations, hundreds of them, unencumbered by superfluous textual handholding and theorizing. Perard sure knows how to give a beginner his best.

"Anatomy and Drawing" is free of the seemingly arrogant demeanor that is present in so many of the newer art instruction. He doesn't fill his book with the kind of dull, completed figures as though to say, "See, I'm so much better than you!" Nope. Here is art instruction clothed in plain cloth, by a working artist, basic and true to the CLASSICAL TRADITION.

And the suggested retail price: (((gasp!!!))) $12.95? Are you kidding??? People who can't even teach figure drawing are publishing books priced $24.95... What an absolute STEAL Viktor Perard is!

I inherited this book from my mother who was once a fine art student. The Best and most comprehensive study of the human figure I have ever come across. Both for artists and anatomy students. lists detailed versions or muscles, bones and various body parts in varied angles ,proportions and positions. Brilliant guide for both beginners and advanced art students interested in the study of human figure and form.
