Experimental Hydrang.........flowers

Flowers that start with H!

Flowers that start with H!

I did this as an experiment after seeing a painting I really liked. I just drew three circles with irregular edges. I put a wash of blue on the underside of one flower....inside edge soft,(leaving the top area white)pink on the second and a mixture of blue and pink on the third.

I allowed them to dry and then used negative painting(pink or blue) to form the small petals. After they were dry I wet the remaining paper and floated different colours for the background adding final details when that was dry.

If the edges of the flowers weren't jagged enough I just added some paint making sure the outside edge was soft.

140 cold press paper. Winsor Newton transparent paints.
Hope you can understand this :o)

Hydrangeas(?)
by: Mops

Thank you all for your nice comments....really appreciated. Y'know though this is not a difficult painting to do. Just draw circles with jagged edges.....wet the whole circle but only slosh paint on the bottom half so that the top edge is a soft edge. Let it dry....then using a darker color make little triangular shapes to form petals.....called negative painting.Try this....draw a kind of four leaf clover....paint a little triangle in between the petals. Make sure the outside edge of the triangle fades away gradually.There....you see a flower forming. Just do lots of these....varying color....all over the lower part of the flower.
Better go....I'll have Bob after me.:o)

by: LINDA

Well Mops, I read your comments and thought wow - then I thought, what? I am new to painting and it was a bit over my head to read what you had done to create such a lovely image, but very well done because you have captured the true random beauty of an hydrangea.

Well done

Linda
