Exercise in glazing

I love transparent paints.,

I love transparent paints.,

Hello.....I'm back. Haven't had much time lately.

I found a really interesting DVD on glazing and decided to "give it a go". I used Jack Richeson 140lb Cold Press paper. Winsor & Newton...... quinacridone gold, cobalt blue, permanent rose and antwerp blue. The painting you see is the result of considerable wiping out.....thanks to the transparent paints used. Hope you are paying attention Dorothy :o) Originally it was much too "gaudy" for the type of flower. It leaves a lot to be desired...especially the background, but I think that with a lot of practice some nice paintings could be produced.
Best wishes to everyone.

Well Impressed
by: Bernadette

I think this is brilliant, I have dappled a little in glazing, but with disastrous results, this really will encourage to keep trying, I would be more than happy if I could produce anything near this standard.

This is Just Practice?
by: Bob

I'm looking hard to find a suggestion for improvement... The bottom left hand leaf not touching the border, maybe? But then I'm being picky and maybe this is how the picture's been cropped for downloading.

I particularly like the white edges on the left hand petals. Coupled with the background there it's created an almost dazzling light on the flower.

Mops, most artists would be more than happy with this to aim for as a standard, never mind as a 'practice piece'...
