Drawing with confidence.
by Anne D'Alton
(Rennes, France.)
Looking at how one holds a pencil may indicate how confident or otherwise, an artist is with their drawing equipment.
As a professional T
tutor, I watch students (a) holding their pencil either with an amazingly firm grip - right at the lead tip of the pencil as well as (b) those who lightly balance the pencil, with its base caught at the base of their frist finger.
Students in category (a) tend to dig into the paper (almost impossible to rub out)and create stiff (stressed) artwork whereas students in sector(b) tend to produce light, airy drawings!
Check and see which category you fall into and if it is (a) teach yourself to relax by taking some deep breaths and ensuring you are comfortably seated and working in good light, before you commence a work.
Happy New Year to all fellow artists.
