Don't throw away those broken pastels

I learned from Cheap Joe's catalogue to not throw away your crumbling, broken pastels. Pulverize them with a mortar, then mix in a bit of alcahol or mineral spirits, shape them, dry them, and there you are.

What to do with old pastels
by: Anonymous

Great tip and I will certainly try this. Thanks

When using pastels wear those thin plastic gloves to keep hands from getting dirty, and cover completed work with sheet of paper to avoid smudging. To get smudges off try blue tack and press in to pastel, it will remove all or nearly all the smudge.

pleading ignorance

Um....I have some pastels, here, but do not really use them yet. So....please forgive my ignorance, but....'there you are'..what? Have you made a muddy brown, or what?
