This is a good way to correct your work in soft pastels.

Brush off the pastel from the area you are not happy with. Make a paper mask to cover the work you do not wish to disturb, spray the brushed out area with fixative and then when dry you can rework your error.

I used this method when working on this Tiger picture, I had seriously smudged the right hand side of the tiger's head.

Now I can fix it
by: laughinghorse

Hi. I did a pastel years ago of my daughter but smudged her face. I couldn't bare to part with it. Now I know I can fix it. I'm going to try your method. Thanks!

Great tip
by: Rosie

I have not done any pastel work yet. I am reading all I can first on tips etc. Your tip sound brilliant as I know I shall make lots of mistakes. Maybe I won't waste so much material with this tip. Many many thanks.

Great tip!
by: Phil

Great tip Dorothy. Thanks for sharing that with us. Only ever done one pastels picture - a still life. I was pleasantly surprise how it turned out but I made such a mess!

Thanks
by: Alex paul

WOW!! That’s a fantastic art. And thanks for the tip. But the work doesn’t look as any defected. In fact, its hard to believe that that the right hand side was awfully smudged.

This is a nice work! I could really feel the Tiger! Colours lying nicely on each other.
