Canatara Park - Watercolour

by Mops
(Ontario,Canada)

I painted this on 140 cold press. Used Winsor Newton paints plus a few Maimeriblue. It's about 16x12. I took a photograph in our local park and my main aim was to loosen up as I tend to be very picky and usually overwork a painting. I found that using a hake brush as used by Ron Ranson really helped me to loosen up.

I'm not too happy with the shadows on the road but it was a good learning exercise.

Trees
by: Carol R Newman

I love your painting.
I like the way the path draws you into the scene and how the colours in your background are so much more soft and delicate than those in the foreground. In particular, I just love the way you have painted the trees. I am dabbling in watercolours at present and I'm having real trouble painting trees in watercolour and getting them to look 3 dimensional . . . . you have done this perfectly.

Canatara Park

Very, very nice! I like the way the road leads you into the painting. I like the purple in the shadows. I have never tried watercolor, but some day I will learn.

Mops, I really like this painting.. Your foreground tree texture is excellent. You have achieved nice distance with that soft background tree.

Your cast shadows look good. My only suggestion would be to lift some colour from the back edge of the furthest road shadow as it appears as dark or darker than the foreground ones. If you also deepen the shadow on the forground tree it would also enhance the distance you have created.

Cheers,

Gail

My only comment , on this beautifully done watercolor is that some of the shadows don't match anything in the painting . What is casting them ?
