buddhist monk

this picture has been made using watercolour pencils (no water has been used. the paper is canson 180gsm 9.5" X 12.5". the odd all-knowing expression was what i liked about the person. i love to put colours like maroon, deep reds, rusts, orange and rich yellow on paper and the colours of a buddhist monks robes are so much like that.
i also wanted to take on the multiple challenges in this picture--the wrinkles, the virtually invisible distinction between the white of the eye and the eyeballs, and the almost white beard. which of these have come out well is something that i am unable to comment on as i am very critical about my work. but the next time around if i have to redo this picture then i would want to give another try at the beard. i must mention here that this portrait has been done from a photograph put up on the internet--i fail to remember by whom or on which site.
