when I'm painting in a sky that will have alot of clouds or sunset coloring, I first spray my canvas with a small amount of water. Blot off excess, then paint on a thin even coat of gesso. Immediatley start adding your background color and scrub in. Then add any reds, yellows, peaches or pinks and lavenders you wish and scrub them in. They blend beautifully. At that point I usually let things dry a little and then use straight gesso for my clouds also scrubbing quite a bit till I get the effect I want. After it is complety dry I will then scrub in Titanium white to brighten areas of the clouds. Once you master this technique you can pretty much blend anything with acrylics.
