Benefit Man

this is a 14x17 graphite portrait I did for a benefit auction. The lady that won , was so pleased when she got her portrait of her deceased dad, she actually cried. She said the drawing captured him better than the photograph it was drawn from....I was really touched and pleased.....

Oh wow....

I know that was this lady's dad, but he looks like he could be anyone's grandpa or dad as well.

A drawing can be so much more than a photograph when done well, as you did. I didn't know this man, but I feel like I have an idea what he was like just from the emotions I get in his face. Excellent work. Your talent, love, and care really shine through here.

emotions evoked
by: sonya

very nice work. the features as well as the expressions have been captured nicely, especially the lips. you mentioned what the lady said about this drawing being better than the photo in conveying the essence of the subject. i guess that says more than anything anybody can. i do not think that art should be measured only in technical terms. the emotions that it evokes are just as good a measure of excellence as any.

(ps: correct me if i am wrong, bob.)
