Angelina Jolie

by Grant
(Ahlden, Germany)

Done on A4 printer paper first using a Faber Castell propeller pencil B 0.5mm and then the shading done using a selection of H & B pencils.

This is now my second portrait that I have done and thanks to the tips from this site and the comments from other users I am very happy with this. Much better than my first portrait entitled Tatjana.

I'm surprised that there is not a hole in the paper where the mouth is because I must have tried doing the lips about 30 times and I am not joking. I spent a while on the eyes trying to get all the detail that I could but some how they still do not seem right (any tips on the eyes are welcome).

I had great fun with the hair using a normal eraser that I sliced with a knife to make a nice thin edge to woooosh through the lead.

Artistic license is a wonderful thing.....in the photo that I drew this from she had the bottom of her chin covered with her forearm and her hand was also in the picture but I think hands will have to wait until another day.....way too hard just now.

Any way thanks for looking. Grant.

Beautiful Portrait of Angelina Jolie
by: Lori Volkers

If this is your second portrait, you have certainly started a great career as a portrait artist!!! In commenting on the eyes, remember they are rounded like an egg. When you shade the corners a little and fade out a little, you will see a softening of the eye and where any other shading is needed. Look at pictures and photos, they leave shadows on the eyeball under the lid and lashes both. Keep up the good work, and find other artists to share tips with. Wetcanvas.com is a good online one, giving hints on all types of paints and materials. Hope to see you there!!

Soften the eye.
by: Life is GO_D!

Very good likeness of Jolie. I am wondering what would happen if the eye lid were more defined. Would it soften the eye gaze? She seems a little too wide eyed. Also, her body posture with her arm like that and the head position you have drawn seems awkward or stiff. Could the head be slighty tilted? One good way to be sure is to take a photograph of someone taking the position you want to draw to be sure of what the body would do in any particular position. You seem to have a real intuitive sense about your work but remember to also plan to know how the body moves. Art and science are best of friends! Keep up the good work. Respectfully - Life is GO_D!

Good Job Grant
I have a suggestin for the eyes -from what I have learned is the whites of the eyes are never as white as the highlights in the eyes
If you darken the whites a bit and make the highlights as white as they can be it should bring the reality to to the eyes
Give it a try and see what you think
Regards
Susan
