Allsorts

by Lori deBruijn
(Edmonton Alberta Canada)

This pastel painting was done with the help of Dianna Ponting on Wet Canvas. I am not much into still life but my mom likes allsorts, so I thought I would give it a try, now I don't know if I want to give it away!

It is painted on Ampersand Pastelbord, 11x14. I used mostly Pitt Pastel pencils, along with some NuPastels. The most challenging part was mixing the colors for the allsorts and definitely the tablecloth. I am pleased with the way the whole painting turned out.

I may try a 16x20 next time to keep for myself, it is going to look really neat hanging on the wall.

Tasty!
by: Della

I also have an aversion to still life, but find it helps if you like the subject. After years of painting I have discovered pastels and now consider them to be my favourite medium. You have managed to keep them very crisp, I'm full of envy!

THANKS
by: Lori

Thank you all for your encouraging comments, I hope that I can keep going on this, still life is really not my forte, but it was alot of fun. I love animals, particularly horses and dogs, and wildlife. Hope to do some of them soon.

Great job

The 3d rendering of the bowl is excellant. The warped reflections add to the realism. I agree with anonymous that the table is a little flat. I think your bowl shadow should come around a little more toward the light source and fade out toward the edge. Folds and wrinkles in a table cloth also add depth and realism. That said, I wish I could do as well!

nice job

I like your painting, nice job. I didnt realize it was sitting on a tablecloth,u might try adding some depth and dimension to give the more 3 dimensional look. Showing part of the bare table might help maybe?

I like those sweets as well...but I like the work that you've done even more. The jet black reflections are amazing. It looks as if you could just tap the plate in the picture and hear the sound of china. Great job.
