A Sky for an Oil Painting?

by David

I wet the sky area with water and paint on acrylic cadmium red and ultramarine blue, painting it in blotches letting the paints run together leaving some white areas, i then sprinkle the paint with fairly large amounts of salt, once the canvas/paint is almost dry i wash of the painted areas with a sponge and this leaves a very interesting sky, i then build up the rest of the picture in oils etc. I used this technique for my painting 'Tango on the Beach'
