A Brighter Future

Size Approx 24" x 18" (60cm x 46cm).

I did this on heavy duty lining paper just to try out acrylics being scraped on with a piece of scrap card, like Bob's picture of Cammell Laird's shipyard.

The grey background was really a mix of several colours that had turned to mud but as I scraped it over the paper, I realised that some bits of brighter colour that had already dried underneath were showing through.

I then just dripped and dabbed on some brighter colour, which really showed up against the dull background.

It sort of reminds me of a dark period in your life (the grey), with just a few hazy bits of colour showing through as distant good times. But then with the really bright colours on top it makes me think of a 'Brighter Future'...!

I can't claim any artistic merit or intention to do the picture like this but it shows that you can sometimes create a pleasing pattern just by keeping going and seeing what happens...

Hi Roo

Your experiment resulted in an abstract painting. Very surprising. It also looks like a little boat, where a few paint-pots exploded, which caused those colourfull spots on it.

I like it!

The bright colours are very uplifting.I admire your perseverance as I throw out more canvases than I keep.
