1. Pastel Types

This short video by Christine MacLellan gives the would-be pastel painter a quick insight into the various types of pastel. It shows how certain types can be used together and which ones cannot. If you've thought about trying pastels and didn't know which were which, then this video will prove a good start point.

2. Quick Tip - How to Draw Wheels in Perspective - Beyond the Video...

I've produced a short video on drawing wheels in perspective but here's a simple extra tip from John in the UK which picks up a point that I didn't cover....

Click here to see this useful tip - there's also a link there to the original video in case you haven't seen it.

3. Golden Olden - How to Draw an Old Time Car

This is really about showing how simple 'blocky' shapes can easily produce a believable subject - in this case, one of Henry's finest, his Ford Model T. And while your doing this sketch you can refer to the tip above (and the video!) on drawing wheels in perspective.

Click this link to see how it's done...

4. Video Tutorial - Preparing a Smooth Surface on Your Canvas

This short video shows how to prepare a canvas that is first of all, properly stretched and then having done that, how to create a very smooth surface, ideal for detailed portraits or a still-life....

Click here to see how it's done....

Monthly Challenges at idrawandpaint.com

We've recently added a series of monthly drawing & painting challenges over at idrawandpaint.com

There's one for each major medium (acrylics, drawing, oils, pastels, watercolors). Entries are coming in thick and fast and it's interesting to see how different people interpret the challenge in their own, unique style.

You can see the challenges (and browse through the early entires) here

That's it for this issue. Best wishes and see you next time.

Bob.
